Interesting idea via Worldchanging. Bikes leave chalk tire treads that, in theory, accrete over time to create a visualization of the best actual bike lanes in a city--the routes most bikes actually take. The idea is totally up this blog's alley: a slightly cockamamie but also kinda delightful way to visualize the environment as a place that gets used and not as a concept.
In other news, Bed Stuy Meadow is on, and you will be tapped to help a little, whether or not you live in Brooklyn! We'll be planting seeds in Mid-April, there will be a formal page that describes the event here and all over the land by the end of the weekend.
And I found one landscape designer who thinks that sedums are the answer for truly sustainable, low-to-no effort literal greening of the Williamsburg Bridge.

That is indeed a brilliant idea. Again, the practicalities need working on, but I wonder if it could be done with electronic tracking. It wouldn't allow other cyclists to see the trail on the ground, but it could be dropped into a GIS and all sorts of things revealed and analysed.
